Reconnaissance Satellite Successful

July 25, 2006
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Eros, which stands for Earth Resources Observation Satellite, was described as a dual-use reconnaissance satellite. It was launched on April 25 and three days later its first images were transmitted. Satellite pictures showed vivid images of a Syrian dam, helicopters in Sudan, and a military port in an unidenti-fied country.

The satellite’s main purpose, however, is to track Iran’s nuclear program at a time when Teheran is refusing to comply with United Nations’ demands to halt uranium enrichment and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is calling for Israel’s destruction.
