Cellular Weather Watch

Measurements taken during interruptions in cellular service caused by the weather were very close to those gathered from physical rain gauges, which have to be visited at each location. Since wireless communication networks are already spread throughout the country, they can serve as an inexpensive alternative to expensive satellites or radar.

The research team believes cellular environmental monitor-ing has potential for measuring other kinds of weather as well and that this method will arouse much interest worldwide.
