IDF Training Base Goes Green

The new officers' training base, Bahad 1, will become a flagship “green” base to encourage and teach new officers to be aware of environmental values and take these values back with them to their home units. Bahad 1 has 400 solar panels for heating the whole facility, and it is expected that due to these panels, there will be a saving of around 100,000 liters [26,417 US gallons] of oil each year.

There will also be motion detectors to switch off lights in rooms where there is no movement detected; also all lights have been replaced by energy saving bulbs.  Together, these improvements should cut electricity consumption by about 30%. Sewage infrastructure will be improved on all bases to avoid any waste being absorbed into the ground. In the case of Bahad 1, all sewage will be disposed of in the nearby Yeroham waste treatment plant. In the future, all newly-constructed army bases will incorporate the latest energy saving devices.
