Smallest Medical Video Camera

The mini-camera itself measures a mere 700 by 700 microns (micron=one millionth of a meter) or about seven times the width of a human hair! Its outer diameter size is only 1.2 mm x 5 mm (0.05 in x 0.2 in). Completely disposable, it eliminates the very costly sterilization process commonly associated with endoscopic procedures. “It will allow procedures not previously achievable,” reported Medigus CEO Dr. Elazar Sonnenschein.

While Medigus is producing the camera, Tower is manufacturing the sensor and integrating it into the camera. According to a Tower press release, “The imager offers a high performance product at a low cost and combines superb sensitivity, resolution and dynamic versatility, allowing customers a variety of potential medical applications in gastroenterology, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, bronchoscopy, orthopedics and ENT [ear-nose-throat]. The first samples have already been distributed with mass production expected to begin in the middle of next year.” For more information: melinda.jarrell@tower-usa.com, adi@medigus.com
