Wisdom from Above: Praying for Israel’s Leaders

What You Need to Know:
Israel’s leadership is navigating an extraordinary convergence of pressures just weeks before the country heads to the polls on October 27. This week, Prime Minister Netanyahu made a previously secret trip to the United Arab Emirates, now publicly confirmed by both governments for the first time. Unnamed sources allege he traveled there to ask Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to deny reports that he warned Netanyahu of a looming Hamas attack before October 7. Netanyahu has forcefully denied these allegations, along with similar reports involving Egyptian intelligence. The timing of these allegations has fueled suspicion among the prime minister’s allies that these leaks are no coincidence, but a calculated effort by political rivals and hostile actors to weaken him at the ballot box.
Meanwhile, analysts warn that what may be Israel’s most consequential election ever is unlikely to bring any clarity. With 13 parties competing and notoriously unreliable polling, neither Netanyahu’s bloc nor the opposition “change bloc” led by Gadi Eisenkot appears likely to reach the 61 seats needed for a majority, leaving Arab-led parties, which historically have rarely joined a governing coalition, holding the balance of power. A drawn-out coalition-forming process, or even a repeat election in early 2027, remains a real possibility, a scenario Israelis already endured from 2019 to 2022. The stakes could hardly be higher: Israel currently has soldiers fighting on multiple fronts, has waged two rounds of war with Iran in as many years and faces a cost-of-living crisis, all while its political system remains gridlocked.

“It’s Bad”: In a Polarized Israel, the Likeliest Election Result is More Uncertainty
Pray with Purpose
- Pray for Prime Minister Netanyahu as he faces a barrage of political accusations while still carrying the weight of real-time national security decisions.
- Pray for Israel’s upcoming elections: for a swift, stable path to forming a government and for leaders willing to set aside personal ambition for the good of the nation.

Guarding the Land: Prayers for Israel’s Security

What You Need to Know:
Judea/Samaria: Rioting near a Palestinian village in Samaria saw a group of Jewish extremists throw stones, assault IDF and Border Police officers and set fire to property, acts that drew swift, unified condemnation from Israel’s top leadership. Prime Minister Netanyahu called for the rioters to be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” President Isaac Herzog called the violence a “moral stain” on the nation, and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar vowed a thorough investigation, saying such acts harm Israel, its values and Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.
Newly obtained Israeli Police data, meanwhile, show this kind of nationalist violence has actually fallen 57% since 2023, and represents a small fraction of the rate of Palestinian terrorism against Israelis in the same period, which the Palestinian Authority continues to financially reward rather than prosecute.
Gaza: Israel’s forces continue to face an enemy that routinely hides behind civilians, including children, as human shields. This week, the IDF released footage showing a Palestinian child forced by a terrorist to carry a heavy weapon into a civilian home, knowing that the IDF would hold its fire rather than risk harming the child, allowing the weapons transfer to go unchallenged. “Hamas exploits children because it knows Israel protects them,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry said.
North: Syrian security forces arrested three Hezbollah operatives accused of attempting to deploy missile launchers near the Israeli border in the Yarmouk Basin, the latest in a string of crackdowns by Damascus on the Iran-backed group’s activities inside Syria since the fall of the Assad regime.

Pray with Purpose:
- Pray for calm in Judea and Samaria and that both Palestinians and Jews in the region will remain peaceful and not resort to violence.
- Pray for IDF commanders and troops facing an enemy that hides behind women and children, that the Lord will bless them with wisdom and alertness. Pray also for the young children being exploited by the terrorist group.
- Thank the Lord for Syria’s cooperation in dismantling Hezbollah’s presence near Israel’s border, and pray for peace and stability in Israel’s north along the borders with Lebanon and Syria.

Frontline Faith: Praying for Israel’s Soldiers

What You Need to Know:
This week brought tragedy and vigilance for Israel’s soldiers. Two IDF reservists, Master Sgt. Nadav Kali, 24, and Master Sgt. Ofek Moalem, 23, were killed when a small explosive drone they were operating in Gaza crashed during takeoff and detonated as they approached it. Both served in the Jerusalem Brigade’s 7007th Battalion. The army has temporarily grounded all similar small strike drones while a panel of experts investigates the cause, working to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the IDF and Shin Bet (Israeli internal security organization) have raised the alert level for troops stationed along Gaza’s Yellow Line amid intelligence suggesting Hamas may attempt to kidnap a soldier in the weeks ahead. Commanders have been instructed to increase vigilance across the roughly 50 positions inside and beyond the line, where the absence of a physical barrier raises the risk that a Hamas cell could seize a soldier and pull him deeper into Gaza, viewing an abduction as one of its last remaining levers as elections approach in both Israel and the US.
On the northern border, Hezbollah launched an explosive drone at IDF soldiers Sunday in the southern Lebanon security zone. No injuries were reported. The IDF struck back at several Hezbollah sites used to launch drones and anti-tank missiles at Israeli troops, along with a separate weapons storage facility, vowing to continue removing threats “with determination.”

- Pray against any plans to kidnap IDF soldiers in Gaza and use them as leverage.
- Pray for protection for IDF soldiers and security personnel operating in Gaza, Lebanon and other dangerous fronts, that they will remain safe and alert.

Lifting the Weary: Praying for Israel’s People

What You Need to Know:
Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter shared an emotional update this week on his son Neria, an IDF reservist who was critically wounded in a car-ramming terrorist attack at the Maccabim checkpoint last Wednesday. “Neria’s life is still hanging in the balance, but we have seen some encouraging signs, and we are holding onto them with hope,” Leiter wrote, thanking those praying for his family and asking that those prayers extend to others severely wounded by terrorists.
“We believe in the power of prayer, in the fact that the Lord hears prayers and can heal even when healing seems impossible,” Leiter added. Neria and his fellow soldiers, Leiter added, “are the heroes who ensure that we can persevere and prevail” against those who “sow murder and destruction.” Leiter lost his other son, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya Leiter, about a month after October 7 when he was attacked while serving in Gaza.
Meanwhile, in Israel’s north, a different kind of story is unfolding: one of gradual healing. Communities like Kiryat Shmona and Metula, largely emptied during the war with Hezbollah, are filling back up with residents and tourists alike. Visitors packed northern kibbutzim (collective communities) over Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), rafting the Jordan River and hiking in the Golan. Fortifications built for defense have become playgrounds for children. Still, the calm isn’t complete: distant explosions and helicopters can still be heard at night, and this week, Syrian authorities detained a terror cell near the Golan border, a reminder that even as life returns, the threat hasn’t fully disappeared.

Pray with Purpose:
- Continue interceding for Neria Leiter, that the Lord will heal him from his serious injuries. Pray also for comfort for the Leiter family during this difficult time, as they have already lost a son in this war.
- As Ambassador Leiter asked, lift up others wounded by terrorists in prayer, asking for healing for them as well. And pray for the families of those wounded or killed in terror attacks, asking for comfort and healing.
- Lift up northern Israel in prayer, thanking the Lord for the slow return to pre-war normal life, and pray for continued safety and return to normal in the region.

Aligning Against Israel: UN and the Nations of the World

What You Need to Know:
Israel’s diplomatic tensions with segments of the international community continued to widen this week. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar summoned Spain’s chargé d'affaires for a reprimand after Spanish Minister for Youth and Children Sira Rego said the Spanish public supports a Palestinian state “from the river to the sea,” a phrase calling for Israel’s elimination. The rebuke comes amid a broader rupture in relations under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s government, which has downgraded diplomatic ties, recognized a Palestinian state and enacted a sweeping arms embargo on Israel.
In Germany, the far-left Die Linke party’s first-place finish in Berlin’s recent election has raised alarm among Jewish community leaders. In a Jerusalem Post opinion piece, columnist Sacha Stawski argued the result signals antisemitism moving further into Germany’s political mainstream, citing Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor’s warning of a “concrete and immediate existential threat” to Jewish life in the city and rhetoric from party-aligned figures minimizing Hamas’s October 7 attack.
Amid this troubling backdrop, there was nonetheless a notable show of solidarity: more than 40 countries, a new record, boycotted a UN commemoration marking 25 years since the notorious 2001 Durban Conference, which devolved into a platform for antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric. Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon called the boycott a sign that “the world is sending the UN a clear message” that hatred of Israel should not be legitimized under the banner of human rights.

Pray with Purpose:
- Lift up Israel’s diplomatic relationship with Spain in prayer, asking for a change in heart among Spanish and other international leaders who spew biased anti-Israel rhetoric.
- Pray for the Jewish community in Germany, as antisemitism gains political ground. Pray that the Lord will raise up courageous leaders willing to stand with Israel and the Jewish people.
- Praise the Lord for nations who are willing to publicly reject and boycott platforms that legitimize antisemitism, and pray blessings over those who are willing to stand with Israel and the Jewish people.

Standing against Hate: Combating Antisemitism in Prayer

What You Need to Know:
Efforts to isolate and exclude Jewish and Israeli communities are intensifying on several fronts. The Netherlands has begun enforcing a strict ban on importing goods from so-called Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights and east Jerusalem, with Israeli travelers arriving from Tel Aviv reporting thorough luggage searches at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. Violations can carry up to six years in prison and apply retroactively to items purchased before it took effect, a measure a conservative Dutch outlet called a “witch hunt.”
In Spain, the Federation of Jewish Communities told the Senate that antisemitic incidents rose more than 14% in 2025, reaching 221 recorded cases, with the sharpest spikes around the anniversary of October 7. The group’s president described a “dangerous resurgence” of antisemitism since the war began, citing boycotts of Israeli-linked institutions, hostile chants at sporting events and rhetoric like Youth Minister Sira Rego’s recent call for Palestine to be free “from the river to the sea.” Spain’s state broadcaster also declined to participate in this year’s Eurovision contest over Israel’s inclusion.
In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled his long-awaited plan to combat antisemitism, pledging tens of millions of dollars for hate-crime prevention, education and security for synagogues and Jewish institutions. Mainstream Jewish groups welcomed those elements but noted that the plan sidesteps a “central issue”: rhetoric demonizing and delegitimizing Israel, which they say fuels attacks on Jewish New Yorkers. The plan does not define antisemitism or address its connection to anti-Zionism.

Pray with Purpose:
- Pray against this new Dutch measure against importing Israeli goods, that it will be undone and that Israeli travelers will be able to smoothly pass through Amsterdam and other European airports without having their luggage searched.
- Pray for the Jewish community of Spain, that their government and leaders will do their part to ensure the safety and protection of their Jewish population.
- Lift up Jewish New Yorkers in prayer, that they will be protected, and that the mayor’s policies to address antisemitism will also address its roots, including anti-Israel rhetoric, and not just its symptoms.

Grateful Hearts: Praise Reports from the Land

What You Need to Know:
Even amid diplomatic isolation on the world stage, there are encouraging signs. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee announced that the United States will soon break ground on a permanent embassy complex in Jerusalem, at the Allenby Compound, following a site agreement signed with Israel this summer. Huckabee called it a lasting American “imprint” on the city, saying that no future government could ever move the US out of where it belongs.
The announcement came at a Sukkot reception hosted by Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, where Lion also shared that Colombia is set to become the 10th country to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem, a move now just two weeks away. Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula is expected to attend the opening, part of rebuilding ties under President Abelardo de la Espriella, who reversed his predecessor’s 2024 break with Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said a second, unnamed country is preparing to open a Jerusalem embassy soon.
On American campuses, where efforts to isolate Israeli academia have intensified, UCLA and Hebrew University of Jerusalem signed two new agreements: one launching a biomedical research collaboration and another establishing a five-year partnership for student exchanges, joint conferences and research. Steven Zipperstein, director of UCLA’s Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, said the partnership would let the two schools “work together on a broad variety of mutually beneficial academic activities.” A Jewish medical association leader noted that “at a time when some would isolate Israeli academia, UCLA has chosen collaboration.”

Pray with Purpose:
- Praise the Lord for the US decision to move into a permanent embassy home, further cementing the bond between the two nations.
- Thank the Lord for Colombia’s decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem, acknowledging it as the Jewish state’s undivided capital, and pray that more nations will follow suit.
- Praise the Lord that at a time where so many universities are hotbeds of anti-Israel sentiment, UCLA is choosing to join hands with Hebrew U. Pray that their collaboration will bear much fruit and inspire other universities to do the same.
