Wisdom from Above: Praying for Israel’s Leaders

What You Need to Know:
Although US President Trump is optimistic about ending the war with Iran quickly, PM Netanyahu is a veteran when it comes to the difference between the words and the actions of the radical Muslim regime which is bent on Israel’s destruction. Consequently, this week the prime minister held high-level talks to consult with senior political and security officials with regard to contingency plans should the negotiations fail and hostilities resume.
After meeting with PM Netanyahu on Tuesday, Nickolay Mladenov, representing the Board of Peace, posted that he held “a positive and substantive discussion” and that participants “reaffirmed our commitment to the full implementation” of US President Trump’s 20-point peace plan. The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and several others. At the time of writing, the prime minister’s office had not provided a readout of the meeting.
Throughout the war, the prime minister has been juggling court appearances in a corruption trial that began with his indictment more than six years ago. US President Trump has asked President Herzog both informally when he visited Israel in October 2025 and later in writing to grant a pardon to PM Netanyahu. Instead, Herzog has invited the parties to hold discussions to see if a negotiated plea deal can be reached. The attorney general has agreed, but the prime minister has yet to respond. He has continued to maintain his innocence throughout the court proceedings.

Pray with Purpose
- Pray for PM Netanyahu and his trusted inner circle of advisors as they consider plans for Israel’s security if US-led negotiations with Iran collapse.
- Pray also that Israel will not be required to “settle” for conditions in Gaza that will endanger Israeli communities in the south.
- Pray that the prime minister will be completely cleared from all the unfounded accusations that have been brought against him.

Guarding the Land: Prayers for Israel’s Security

What You Need to Know:
Lebanon: Hezbollah’s new first-person-in-view (FPV) fiber-optic controlled explosive drones pose a significant threat. Since they do not depend on radio wave signals, they are resistant to electronic warfare jamming. The IDF has noted that it is constrained by restrictions imposed by the US that do not allow them to cut off Hezbollah’s supply line from north of the Litani River. As a result, a soldier and a civilian were killed last week and seven soldiers wounded in a 24-hour period in southern Lebanon this week. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said, “IDF troops under the Northern Command continue to operate to carry out the mission of defending the communities … and deepening the dismantling of Hezbollah.”
Gaza: The northern front may be grabbing headlines, but Gaza is not out of the picture. With six brigades deployed, the IDF is preparing to exert heavier pressure on Hamas, which is refusing to disarm as the Trump Peace Plan requires it to do. Although Hamas has participated in Board of Peace talks in Cairo, Israel says the maximum Hamas has agreed to do falls far short of the minimum Israel would deem acceptable.
Turkey: Israel’s relations with Turkey, which have been tense for years, are reaching a new low after Israel’s interception of the most recent flotilla last week. Twenty ships are being organized to launch a new flotilla from Turkey, sparking concerns that a military clash could occur as Turkey flexes its muscles in the region.

Pray with Purpose:
- Continue to pray for the security situation with Iran, as Israel has not had a direct role in the negotiations and yet is on the frontlines.
- Pray that Israel will be able to quickly develop a defense against these new fiber-optic controlled drones that are proving deadly.
- Pray that diplomatic efforts will defuse the rising tensions with Turkey.
- Pray also for the security of Judea and Samaria, the biblical heartland of Israel.

Frontline Faith: Praying for Israel’s Soldiers

What You Need to Know:
IDF officers often lead rather than send their troops into battle, a fact confirmed by statistics from the ongoing Gaza war. Six colonels have fallen in battle, the highest number of senior officers killed in combat in recent memory. In all, 942 soldiers, officers and reservists are among the dead, with 331 being killed during the initial fighting when Hamas crossed the border into Israel. The Israel Police lost another 58 officers who were killed while confronting terrorists on the Gaza border.
Sometimes the hero isn’t a soldier but a four-legged canine. During the intense fighting in Bint Jbeil, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Lebanon, Bernie saved the lives of Staff Sgt. Y, her handler, along with others in the unit who were attempting to clear a building. She located six Hezbollah terrorists waiting in ambush with weapons and grenades ready before she was killed. As he grieves the loss of his friend, Staff Sgt. Y told Ynetnews, “I want her to be remembered as a hero, as a full-fledged fighter who saved the lives of many soldiers, including my own.”
A new tech center that will serve soldiers and career officers from the IDF’s C4I and Cyber Defense Directorate has just been opened in Beersheva, near Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. It will house the directorate’s schools for computing and communications and also Southern Command headquarters. The C4I is the IDF’s elite technological unit whose focus “is to provide commanders in the field with the technology they need in order to manage a combat situation in the best way.”

Lifting the Weary: Praying for Israel’s People
What You Need to Know:
Researchers from the University of Haifa released results of a survey showing that “young Israeli children are more affected by their parents’ emotional responses to conflict that by the frequency of air raid sirens.” Professor Yael Mayer, the lead researcher, indicated that parents are the anchor for their children who aren’t affected by the reality of a situation itself but by how the parents respond. Mayer continued by saying that “the findings underscore the need for both practical and emotional support for parents during emergencies.” Roughly 45% of the parents surveyed reported moderate to severe anxiety, with 28.5% reporting post-traumatic stress symptoms.
Israeli society is diverse, with a spectrum of Judaism ranging from secular to observant to religious and haredi (ultra-Orthodox). President Herzog recently visited the Jerusalem College of Technology (JCT) whose student body of approximately 4,500 represent the religious and haredi branches of Judaism. JCT is unique in that it combines study of Torah (Gen.–Deut.) with science. In his remarks, the president said, “The unique integration that JCT represents is a tremendous asset for the State of Israel, especially in a time of division.” Students of JCT receive an education that strives to produce graduates whose “values-driven leadership” skills enable them to help shape Israeli society and industry.

Aligning Against Israel: UN and the Nations of the World

What You Need to Know:
It is no secret that the UN Human Rights Council is heavily biased against Israel. And it comes as no surprise that Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, entitled her annual report “Torture and Genocide.” It was quickly endorsed by several states, including Pakistan, Qatar, China, Iran and North Korea. When Hillel Neuer of the UN Watch addressed the absolutely false and baseless accusations in the report, “the PLO ambassador kept banging on the table to interrupt, objecting that the UN Watch was out of order. The Chair agreed.” Before he was forced to leave the stand, Neuer pointed out that the report redefines torture and “collapses the distinction between torture and genocide, inventing a theory that has no grounding in international law.”
Not only does Israel face false accusations before formal bodies, it must also contend with a myriad of lies circulating in the media. A recent article addresses just three examples, one of which involves Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters. By doing so, Israel has been accused of violating international law. Beside the fact that no other nation would allow 100 vessels “filled with sympathizers of terrorism” to approach with the intent of breaking a legal blockade, it was legal under the San Remo Manual, which covers armed conflicts in international waters. Since Hamas has military capabilities and territorial control and there is an armed conflict, the interception was lawful. The other examples are included in the complete article, included in “Dig Deeper.”

Pray with Purpose:
- Pray that Israelis will stand strong and courageous in the face of false accusations against them at the UN.
- Pray for “teachable moments” within your sphere of influence when you can point out the absurdities of the anti-Israel rhetoric.
- Pray that a fear of the Lord would come over those who circulate false reports.
Anchored in Scripture:
You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. (Exodus 23:1–2)

Standing against Hate: Combatting Antisemitism in Prayer

What You Need to Know:
Italy: On April 25, Italians celebrate Liberation Day, the anniversary of the date when they were freed from Australia: After the Bondi Beach massacre that left 15 people dead, the Australian government convened a federal Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. To date, 5,700 people have submitted information with verbal testimonies taking place from May 3 until May 15. Joshua Gomperts, a Jewish paramedic, gave chilling testimony that at a music festival, a firefighter pulled a hunting knife and threatened to “skin” him. The commission heard from relatives of those killed at Bondi Beach, many of them testifying that they live daily with fear and anxiety because they are Jewish.
France: Outside of Israel and the US, the Jewish community of France is one of the largest at nearly half a million strong. However, France is also home to the largest Muslim population in Europe, causing four out of five French Jews to feel unsafe. Tony Gelbart, chairman of Nefesh B’Nefesh (a nonprofit that promotes and facilitates aliyah/immigration), told JNS that French Jews “are on the edge of their seats and have to make a hard decision.” More and more, Jews are coming to realize that there is no future for them in France.
New York City: Although anti-Jewish hate crimes in April were down more than 30% from the previous year, Jews were still the target of 59% of New York City’s confirmed hate crimes. In contrast, hate crimes against Muslims represented just 7% of the total, which contradicts NYC Mayor Mamdani’s position that Islamophobia is rising in the city.

Pray with Purpose:
- Pray for the safety of the Jewish population of the Diaspora (outside Israel) until they have made the “hard decision” to leave the lands of their exile and come home to Israel.
- Pray for Australia’s royal commission, asking that its members will have the courage to honestly confront the rise of antisemitism and violence in the country.

Grateful Hearts: Praise Reports from the Land

What You Need to Know:
In a recent report published by the Tkuma Directorate, a government agency tasked with revival of communities located within seven kilometers (4.3 mi) of the Gaza border, 92% of their residents have returned home. They have been joined by 3,000 new residents. Four of the communities are still in a reconstruction process with completion dates scheduled before the end of 2026, and in the case of Nir Oz, by the end of 2027. The IDF has implemented lessons learned from October 7 to ensure the security of these residents.
Harnessing the power of the sun and creating electricity is a natural for Israel’s southern region which has abundant sunshine most of the year. On Sunday, May 3, papers were signed for the construction of Israel’s largest solar plant to date. The project should be completed in about two years and will bring a significant boost to the government’s goal of generating 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Western Wall stones have been displayed around the nation for years, but recently there has been a push to bring them home. On Monday, one of those stones was returned from the Kirya (military headquarters in Tel Aviv). Defense Minister Katz said: “Every stone carries the story of the Jewish people, from prayer and hope, through destruction, to the strength and renewed sovereignty of the State of Israel. The return of the stone today expresses our commitment to Jerusalem and the Western Wall forever, and the clear promise: ‘This home will not be destroyed again.’”
