He did not directly answer which was worse, citing potential, unintended consequences for each of the two scenarios. Mullen expressed the hope that other means short of military action, such as sanctions, would stop Iran’s nuclear drive. While noting that military activity against Iran is an “important option” that’s “well understood,” he also said of the military option, “I hope we don't get to that.”
