A spokesman for the European observer force that monitored crossing point operations said on Thursday [May 26] that no request has been made for the force to return when Rafah opens, raising doubts regarding adherence to international standards for security checks.
Israel views the re-opening of Rafah as only the first manifestation of a predicted series of “problematic” concerns regarding relations with Egypt’s new government.
