What Will We Do Now?

The well stocked shelves of a supermarket in the US.

I was recently in a grocery store in Springfield, Missouri. There was food in every aisle of the huge store. Then I traveled back to Israel. Although the stores were a little smaller, there was also food in every aisle. Although there is plenty of food, the prices have gone up. In Israel, food prices have risen by 16% since the war began in Ukraine. Then I turned on the news. A Ukrainian man was saying that there had been no pension payments for five months, and now they were almost out of potatoes. His cry of despair echoes in my heart: “What will we do now?” The news from Ukraine may no longer be on the front pages, but the war rages on and the human suffering is great.

The Needs Are Overwhelming

“Lord,” I cried out, “what should we do next?” In the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24–25, Jesus told His disciples about the future and also how to act in those difficult times. He said in part, “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing” (Matt. 24:45–46).

Through Project Tikvah, we care for needy and elderly Jewish people in Ukraine.

Bridges for Peace is one of the Lord’s servants raised up for this time, and we will continue to give food, help the widows and orphans, minister to those who are crying out for help and help the Jewish people come home. It isn’t that we need to pick one thing over another. The Lord is calling us to continue in faithful, practical action in all the areas He has placed in front of us.

What this Means this Month

The school year is starting, so we will be choosing children to add to the Feed a Child program. This year, there are more children in need because of all the children arriving from Ukraine; some of them orphans and others whose parents can barely provide them with food. We need many more sponsors so these children can have a chance for a future. We need two sponsors for every child to enable us to provide nutritious lunches, backpacks, after-school enrichment and more.

We will be purchasing appliances for some of the newest immigrants from Ukraine who are now trying to move into empty apartments and start their lives in Israel.

We will be sponsoring more flights from Ukraine, Russia and Ethiopia as we bring the Jewish people home on our shoulders (Isa. 49:22).

And we will be feeding 24,000 needy people in Israel each month. In the schools, we will care for children from poverty-stricken families through our Feed a Child program. In Ukraine, we will provide for those in need through Project Rescue and Project Tikvah. And we will do it until the Lord comes. We will be that faithful servant who is found feeding those in need when He comes.

Join Us in Practical Action

You are a vital part of this action in times of crisis. Your faithful giving and prayer support make it possible for the Lord to reach out to the hurting through His servant, Bridges for Peace. Please pray about whether you can sponsor a child for the next year. Ask the Lord how He wants you to participate in loving the Jewish people at this time in history.
