UN Bias Against Israel!

UN Watch issued a report saying Canada alone voted in opposition to the grossly one-sided text. However, a report by Patrick Martin of Canada’s Globe and Mail has revealed that contrary to what was reported worldwide:

(1) No Israeli shells landed in the UNRWA school compound.
(2) No one taking refuge in the UN schoolyard was killed.
(3) None of these facts prevented a UN agency from falsely reporting that “Israeli shelling directly hit two UNRWA schools…”

As usual, when it comes to Israel, the Council was little concerned with actual facts. Egyptian representative Hisham Badr, speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, said, “Israel did not distinguish between combatants and civilians, targeting United Nations schools.” Syria said, “UN schools have turned into mass graves.” Qatar, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Dijbouti joined the attack.

Rightfully, UN Watch asked: Will the Human Rights Council now apologize for having falsely condemned Israel for the “targeting of facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in Gaza, including schools?” Later UN watch commented in a press release, “The UN Humans Rights Council is wholly owned by Islamic states that legitimize Hamas and Hezbollah terrorism.”

In February, it was reported that UN officials finally did concede that the incident had not been reported truthfully, but the damage had been done and few media agencies reported the retraction.

Also in February, the UN was forced into yet another about-face when they suspended delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip after its shipments were attacked and stolen by armed Hamas operatives. During the 22 days of fighting in the Gaza Strip, Israeli claims that Hamas was intercepting aid bound for Gaza’s citizens were dismissed by the agency. The Media Line’s reporters in Gaza, however, confirmed the charges.
