Ethiopian Orphan Saved by Israeli Doctors Returns

SACH is an Israeli-based international humanitarian project providing life-saving heart surgery for children from developing countries. It was here, that he underwent life-saving heart surgery performed by the founder of SACH, the late Dr. Ami Cohen.

Yared with Kadija, a patient from Zanzibar This was Yared's first visit to Israel since his life-saving operation. Today, Yared is the director of School of Saint Yared in Addis Abba, a school that fights poverty through education and provides education to the city’s poorest and unprivileged children.

Two years ago, Yared met a very sick young orphan named Tamru, who was brought to the hospital in Addis Abba from an orphanage in northern Ethiopia because he desperately needed life-saving heart surgery. Yared immediately approached SACH for help. It took a few weeks until Tamru was well enough to fly to Israel to undergo open-heart surgery. During those weeks, Yared personally took care of Tamru. When Tamru returned to Ethiopia after his successful surgery, Yared took him into his home in order for him to receive the necessary follow-up care.

Yared visiting a Palestinian boy at the Wolfson Medical Center Yared is now married and has a four-month-old baby girl Anna Ami, who is named after Dr. Ami Cohen. During his visit, Yared met children from Ethiopia, Angola, Zanzibar, Uganda, Moldova, Iraq, and the Palestinian Authority, who were all brought to Israel to undergo life-saving heart surgery. Yared told them about his own experience and encouraged them to be strong. He also met with the doctors who treated him when he was in Israel 13 years ago.
