Netanyahu Conferring with US National Security Adviser

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Benyamin Netanyahu Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is set to talk about Iran with US National Adviser Tom Donilon who arrived in Israel on Saturday night [February 18]. The high-level visit comes as international speculation about an Israeli military strike at Iranian nuclear installations grows. Donilon has told reporters that there is the likelihood of a unilateral Israeli action, but that the US is urging Netanyahu to be patient and allow time for sanctions to work. Sunday’s meeting will lay the groundwork for an expected meeting at the White House when Netanyahu travels to Washington next month [March].

The US administration is viewing a recent message from Tehran saying it is ready to resume talks about its nuclear program as further reason for Israel to stand-down, but many Israeli analysts see it as a tactic by Tehran to pressure Israel into delaying presumed plans for a strike.
