  Hanukkah (Festival of Lights)

www.israelimages.com/ Raffi Rondel
This year Hanukkah begins on Friday, December 11, and ends on the 19th. Following is a brief explanation of the Jewish holiday from our book, God’s Roadmap:

During the time between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament [164 BC], there was a struggle between Hellenism and Hebraic practice in Israel. Many began to seem more Greek than Hebrew, forsaking the ways of God for the ways of their “modern” world. But, many God-fearing Jews refused.   UK to Shun Settlement Products?

The British government advised all food chains in the UK to clearly mark any imported products made in Judea, Samaria, and the Golan Heights, Ynet learned Thursday [December 10]. Itsik Marom
The Knesset's [Parliament’s] decision on Wednesday [December 9] to advance a bill calling for a referendum [public vote] on the withdrawal from parts of Israel's territories as part of future peace deals was received with much satisfaction in the Golan Heights. Uri Heitner of Kibbutz Ortal in the Golan said, “It is sad that a law on approving concessions of sovereign territory via a referendum must be put in the State of Israel's law book, but this is our reality.” The Knesset adopted a “continuity law” allowing the parliament to continue legislative discussions on a bill obligating referendum on withdrawals from the Golan Heights or east Jerusalem [unless two-thirds of the Knesset support the withdrawal].

Israel Helps Gazans Deal with Swine Flu

Swine flu has reached the Gaza Strip, and approximately 10,000 swine flu vaccinations have already been transferred into the Strip via Israel, with the possibility for more, according to a press release from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. In addition, Israel is also working with the Palestinian Authority-associated Palestinian Civil Committee in Gaza to facilitate the entry of sick Palestinians into Israel for treatment. At least five Palestinians were in Israel on December 7 because of the possibility of swine flu.
