Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at a Jewish community center to a mixed group of Christians and Jews. I talked about the miracle-working power of the God we both serve. At that moment, war between Israel and Iran loomed ominously, and everyone thought Israel would quickly be engulfed in a war for her survival.

Unfortunately, fear of war became reality. Israel endured a horrendous conflict with Hamas during Operation Pillar of Defense. The residents of communities close to the Gaza Strip were under lockdown, confined to their homes or their bomb shelters, schools and businesses closed, sirens sounding every few minutes. Over 1500 rockets were launched, some of them reaching Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Five Israelis were killed and those that were already living in poverty are now living in desperation.

Many in the rest of Israel who are threatened by poverty are now facing the ramifications of war as well. One of the families on our Adoption Program told us how they heard about Bridges for Peace. The father was walking around the grocery store with a mere 40 shekels in hand (about US $10). One of our BFP team members overheard him telling his young daughter that they couldn’t afford to buy the food they needed. Her heart was so moved that she reached into her own pocket, took her personal money, and blessed this Jewish family. Then she connected the family with our food program, and now they receive regular supplies of food. Bridges for Peace was able to provide the miracle this family needed.

In many places around the world, people are in need of miracles. In late October, Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc in the lives of millions living along the east coast of the United States. As an American, my heart was burdened for the many that lost their homes, loved ones, and were struggling without electricity. They needed a miracle.

Our Miracle-working God

In all these situations, there is an answer! There is a God in heaven who cares about us. He is not weak—He is well able to miraculously intervene in the affairs of men. As we read our Bibles, we see His power displayed repeatedly. Unfortunately, many have relegated the miracles of God to the past. They don’t expect Him to act with miraculous power today. I want to challenge this viewpoint! I believe that modern-day Israel is one of the most compelling proofs that God is still actively working in human history today, and is a powerful testimony to His faithful nature.

In the past 100 years, we have witnessed miracle after miracle as numerous biblical prophecies are literally fulfilled: the return of the Jewish people, the establishment of the State of Israel, the revival of the Hebrew language, and the restoration of the barren landscape. We also see that God has worked miracles in the ongoing battles that beset this nation. One of my Jewish friends said to me, “We are seeing a miracle every day, as countless rockets land in Jewish communities and no one is killed!”

Please take a moment and reflect on God’s power and majesty. We need to realize that the God of the Bible who worked mightily on behalf of His people then, is still working today, as evidenced in His actions toward Israel. Surely we can trust this same God to continue to watch over His people living in Israel and around the world. It is time that we turn our eyes heavenward and put our trust in the Almighty. Then we need to ask Him what He wants us to do in the midst of times of trouble.

Providing Miracles

We have been preparing for difficult times. They are now upon us and the needs increase every day. And we are faithfully providing for 28,000 Israelis in need who are crying out for a miracle today. God has called us to provide those “miracles.” We are speaking out about the faithfulness of our God, and we are faithfully living our lives for His purposes. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).

We are so thankful for the way that God has laid the ministry of Bridges for Peace on your hearts. Together we are partnering with God to vindicate His name in the eyes of the nation of Israel and to all in the nations who will acknowledge His acts. In the difficult times ahead, I believe we will see His miraculous power at work as we put our trust in Him.

Will you join us in demonstrating His love to the people of Israel? Please make a year end gift that will help us show that Christians care by reaching out in love to a nation in crisis.

Blessings from Israel,
