August is vacation time in Israel. Normally, heavy traffic becomes light. Families flood the Galilee region of Israel or travel abroad if they can afford to do so. Many businesses close for the month, and a general attitude of lazy days pervades. The Knesset (Parliament) is in recess, and government offices operate with a skeleton staff.

But, Poverty and Hunger Do Not Take Vacations

On the surface, Israel appears to be a modern, prosperous country. Indeed, her high-tech sectors are booming, creating wealth for those involved. Recent reports, however, show an ever widening gap between the rich and poor in Israel. Fully 25% of the population (well over one million) live below the poverty line. Many go to bed at night without proper nutrition. Many are accustomed to the dull ache of hunger, never having enough food to fill up their stomachs.

Today, I am asking you to pray and consider the fact that so many in Israel are weak and needy. They are beloved of the Lord (Romans 11:28). Will you consider a generous gift for food this month and show mercy to the people of Israel? Our Christian volunteers will distribute the food, showing God’s love and mercy to the people of Israel.

Your gifts can make a tremendous impact on the lives of needy Israelis. As you give to bless Israel, I believe God will bless you abundantly. Yeshua said during His Sermon on the Mount, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).

I pray that God will bless you abundantly as you follow Him.

Blessings from Jerusalem,
